Yes, you're right. It dropped to under 2.5 in the mid-2000s, but then it went back up significantly, I should've double-checked it, sorry.

I stand by my point though, their demographic pyramid is very uneven due to the fast drop during 1980-2005, and this imbalance will add to their many troubles in the coming years. Life will be bad in Algeria, life will be good in France, and people tend to thrive where the life is good.

UN predicts Algerian TFR to decrease very gradually towards 2.0, and their population to stabilize at ~67m about 2080. France, according to them, will have ~63m people by then, falling very slowly. I think they are far too shy about Algerian TFR decrease, and somewhat too stingy about France TFR and immigration.
